My design philosophy has always been:  Build a box with correct specifications while keeping true to my creativeness by making it whimsical and/or artistically different. 

I began making birdhouses in 1993 out of my concern for the Eastern Bluebird, which was on the verge of extinction because of a lack of "correct" nesting boxes.  Then, as is still mostly true today, most birdhouses being sold were "garden art" deathtraps, with no ventilation or drainage and built without regard to (protective) specifications. 

Incidentally, I have found that bluebirds (and other species)have no sense of decor whatsoever..they could care less what the outside looks like as long as the inside is correct!
All of my boxes are hand-made, one-of-a-kind creations, made of 1" pine, primed and painted with a 15 year exterior latex house paint.  They are made to be used and enjoyed by both you, the customer, and the bird population. In addition to the bluebird abodes, I craft nesting homes and platforms for other species(barn owls, woodducks. wrens, woodpeckers, robins, and hummingbirds).  My product line has been expanded recently to include homes for bats, butterflies, ladybugs, toads, and mason bees as well as related garden decor.  These include birdfeeders, garden signs/art and house numbered quilt squares.

I also recycle fallen limbs, twigs, and other "gifts" from nature in homes for faeries.
